Fieber ist eines der häufigsten Symptome, welches bei Kindern in einer Spitalumgebung anzutreffen ist. Viele Behandlungsmethoden beruhen auf der genauen Einschätzung des Fiebergrades und des Fieberverlaufes. Kernkörpertemperatur-Messungen werden unter 6 Monaten nur rektal durch-geführt (Standard Methode). Diese invasive Untersuchung kann bei kritisch kranken Kindern zu zusätzlichem Stress führen und ist mit personellem Aufwand verbunden. Um eine Alternative bieten zu können, wird in dieser Studie ein Algorithmus (Rechenvorgang nach einem bestimmten sich wiederholenden Schema) für nicht-invasive Geräte entwickelt, welcher aus oberflächlichen Haut-temperatur- und Wärmeflussdaten die Kernkörpertemperatur von Kindern errechnet.

In diesem Forschungsproject wird der Zustand von erhöhter Kernkörpertemperatur bei Kindern bis 18 Monaten im klinischen Umfeld untersucht. Dabei wird dieser nicht künstlich induziert, sondern beim natürlichen Auftretten lediglich mit nicht invasiven Sensoren über die Haut mitgemessen.

Criteria for participation in trial

Es können Säuglinge und Kleinkinder (2 Wochen ab Geburtstermin bis 18 Monate alt) teilnehmen, welche mindestens 24 bis 72 Stunden im Kinderspital Zürich überwacht werden.
Exclusion criteria

Akute medizinische Kontraindikationen gegen das Anbringen von Pflaster oder medizinischem Tape (e.g. Hautkrankheiten oder Allergien).
Irritierte oder verletzte Haut am Ort der Sensoranbringung.
Kinder mit kongenitalen Anomalien.

Inclusion Criteria:
- Infants from two weeks after birth and due date up to 18 months of age
- Infants which are staying at the Nursery and the University Children's Hospital Zurich
or Children's Hospital of Eastern Switzerland, St. Gallen for more than 1 day
- Informed consent signed by parents or by legal representatives
Exclusion Criteria:
- Acute medical contradiction against medical plaster and adhesives (e.g. skin diseases
or allergies).
- Irritated or damaged skin (e.g. burn, rush, eczema)
- Infant with congenital anomalies (e.g. malformations of the anus)
- Disease or brain injury which cause a disturbance of the thermoregulation
- Comatose infant's
- Infants with implants (e.g. pacemaker, cochlear implants)
