Pro- und Präbiotika Supplementation bei Elite Rollstuhlathleten

Brief description of trial (Data source: BASEC)

Die Athleten erhalten während jeweils vier Wochen entweder zuerst ein Probiotika Supplement (Bakterien, welche sich positiv auf unseren Magendarmtrakt auswirken) oder ein Präbiotika Supplement (Nahrung für diese Bakterien). Dazwischen findet eine 4-wöchige Supplementationspause statt, wo die Athleten gar nichts zuführen sollen. Stuhlproben zur Bestimmung der Bakterienvielfalt im Magendarmtrakt sowie Blutproben zur Analyse verschiedener Blutparameter werden jeweils vor und nach der vierwöchigen Phase entnommen. Weiter wird auch die Ernährung in den letzten 3 Tagen vor der Stuhlprobe mittels Ernährungstagebuch erhoben. Während der gesamten Studiendauer wird mittels Fragebogen das gastrointestinale Befinden sowie der Trainingsausfall aufgrund von Infekten oder Verletzungen erfragt.

Rollstuhlathleten, welche für die Paralympischen Spiele in Frage kommen oder sich für eine Weltmeisterschaft selektioniert haben

Schwangerschaft
Antibiotikasupplementation während der Rekrutierung
Chronische Entzündung des Magendarms (Bsp. Morbus Crohn)

Inclusion Criteria:

- athletes with a spinal cord injury shortlisted as potential participants for major
international events, such as the Paralympic Games 2021 in Tokyo and World
Championship qualification

Exclusion Criteria:

- Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (i.e. ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease)

- Taking antibiotics and/or other medication to alleviate gastrointestinal complaints at
recruitment time point

- Pregnancy
