Brief description of trial (Data source: BASEC)
Diese Studie untersucht zwei verschiedene Stents (Gefässwandstütze) zur Behandlung von Durchblutungsstörungen, welche durch Verengungen der Beinarterien entstehen. Wir vergleichen, ob der Supera® Stent der Herstellers Abbott dem Standard-Stent des Herstellers Medtronic, dem EverFlex™ überlegen ist hinsichtlich der primären Offenheitsrate und dem Erfordernis eines erneuten Eingriffs innert 24 Monaten. Im Rahmen der regulären Behandlung erfolgt eine Angiographie (Gefässdarstellung mit Kontrastmittel) und Ballondilatation (Aufdehnung der Verengung). Sollte diese ausreichen um die Beinarterien offen zu halten und kein Stent nötig sein, kann der Patient nicht an der Studie teilnehmen. Andernfalls erfolgt die Stenteinlage, sofern der Patient weiterhin alle Studienvoraussetzungen erfüllt. Der Ablauf der Stenteinlage erfolgt gemäss den medizinischen Vorschriften, wie auch ausserhalb der Studie. Nach Stenteinlage halten Patienten für circa 2-4 Std. Bettruhe und können in der Regel gleichentags oder am Folgetag wieder nach Hause, wobei vorher der Gesundheitszustand überprüft wird. Danach müssen die Patienten an Monat 1, 6, 12 und 24 zu Untersuchungen an das behandelnde Spital kommen, um Ihren Gesundheitszustand und das Ansprechen auf die Therapie zu überprüfen. Hierzu werden körperliche und bildgebende Untersuchungen, wie Ultraschall und Druckmessungen (Pulsstatus) durchgeführt. Die gesamte Studiendauer pro Patient ist 24 Monate. Diese Studie wird als prospektive, randomisierte, multizentrische Parallelgruppen-Studie durchgeführt. Das heisst, dass ein Zufallsverfahren entscheidet, vergleichbar mit dem Werfen einer Münze, ob ein Patient den Supera® Stent oder einen EverFlex™ Stent erhält; dies wird randomisiert genannt. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit den Supera® Stent zu erhalten beträgt 50%. Beide in dieser Studie verwendeten Stents, Supera® oder EverFlex™ sind zugelassene Medizinprodukte, die genauso angewendet werden, wie diese bereits jetzt im klinischen Alltag verwendet werden.

Criteria for participation in trial

- Patienten mit Femoro-Poplitealer-Arterienerkrankung, die einen Stent nach Ballondilatation benötigen
- verfügbar über 24 Monate
- Männer und Frauen 18 Jahre und älter
Exclusion criteria

- Patienten, die keine kombinierte thrombozytenaggregationshemmende Therapie (Aspirin 100mg und Clopidogrel 75mg) oder Antikoagulationstherapie erhalten dürfen
- Patienten mit bekannten Allergien zu Nitinol (Nickel-Titan) oder Kontrastmittel, die nicht ärztlich behandelt werden können
- Vorherige Stent-Implanation am vorgesehenen Gefäss-Segment

Inclusion Criteria:
- Patients with femoro-popliteal artery disease, who will require a stent
femoro-popliteal following failed percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA)
- Target Lesion length <200mm
- Planned follow-up available for at least 24 months
- Written informed consent to participate in the study and agreement to comply with the
study protocol must be obtained from the patient prior to initiation of any
study-mandated procedure and randomization
Exclusion Criteria:
- Life expectancy <24 months
- Patients who cannot receive dual antiplatelet therapy (aspirin 100mg and clopidogrel
75mg) or anticoagulation therapy
- Patients with known allergies to: nitinol (nickel titanium); or contrast agent, that
cannot be medically managed
- Participation in another study with investigational drug/device within the 30 days
preceding and during the present study
- Previous enrolment into the current study
- Prior stenting at the location of intended stenting
- Patients who are judged to have a lesion that prevents complete inflation of an
angioplasty balloon or proper placement of the stent or stent delivery system
- Enrolment of study investigator, his/her family members, employees and other dependent
persons
- If female and of childbearing potential: known pregnancy or a positive urine pregnancy
test (confirmed by a positive serum pregnancy test), or lactating
