Ziel dieser Studie ist es, zu überprüfen, ob durch eine neue Methode (Anbringen eines Gefässpfropfens in die rechte oder linke innere Brustwandarterie) innerhalb von 6 Wochen ein Wachstum der natürlichen Bypässe (Kollateralen) in einem Ausmass gefördert werden kann, welches sich für den Patienten in einer Steigerung der Leistungsfähigkeit oder einer Abnahme der Beschwerden bemerkbar macht.

In dieser Studie wird bei Patienten mit einer relevanten Verengung eines Herzkranzgefässes die gleichseitige innere Brustwandarterie mittels einem Gefässpfropfens verschlossen und dadurch Blut über natürliche Bypässe zum Herz umgeleitet. Mittels eines Laufbandtestes wird die Leistungsfähigkeit der Probanden vor und nach der Intervention getestet. Diese Ergebnisse werden dann mit den Ergebnissen von Placebo-Interventionen (d.h. bei denen kein Verschluss der inneren Brustwandarterie stattgefunden hat) verglichen, um die Leistungssteigerung durch den Verschluss zu messen.
Zudem wird die Beschwerdelast bei allen Patienten am Anfang und am Ende der Studie mittels einem Fragebogen erfasst.

Criteria for participation in trial

- Alter >= 18 Jahre
- Relevante Verengung mindestens eines Herzkranzgefässes
- Unterschriebene Einverständniserklärung
Exclusion criteria

- Abwesenheit einer relevanten Verengung eines Herzgefässes
- Akuter Herzinfarkt oder instabile Situation (bedingt durch Herzschwäche oder eine andere, ausgeprägte Organschwäche)
- Erkrankungen der Herzkranzgefässe, welche besser chirurgisch behandelt werden sollten
Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:
- Chronic stable 1- to 3-vessel CAD
- Written informed consent to participate in the study
Exclusion Criteria:
- Absence of at least one coronary stenotic lesion =50% diameter narrowing.
- Acute coronary syndrome; unstable cardiopulmonary condition, unstable angina pectoris
- Severe valvular heart disease
- Congestive heart failure NYHA III-IV
- Prior coronary artery bypass surgery / prior cardiac surgery
- CAD best treated by coronary artery bypass grafting
- Prior Q-wave myocardial infarction in the vascular territory undergoing collateral

- Severe renal or hepatic failure
- Women of childbearing age
